How Many Hypnosis Sessions do I need?

How Many Hypnosis Sessions Does Someone Need?

Many people ask me how many hypnosis sessions they need. Unfortunately, the answer to this question is a rather difficult one to answer. So, I decided to just make this video to quickly explain it.

Hey there, I’m Joshua Howard from 180theory.com.

Welcome to my video series, “About Hypnosis”. This is video number seven: “How Many Hypnosis Session do I Need?”

Now this video isn’t exactly about hypnosis per se. It’s more about hypnotherapy and hypnosis audios, but it’s a question I get asked often enough that I would put it in here to answer it for everybody.

So, really, the answer to this question, “How many sessions do I need?” is that it depends. To be honest with you, this is the most common question all therapists across different modalities are asked. And so really, the amount of time that you need, the amount of sessions you need with a therapist, depend on the issue at hand, your willingness to explore the issue or want to change, the amount of work that needs to be done, the rate at which you and your unconscious are agreeable to make changes in your own outside of therapy process, your trust in the process, the therapist, yourself, and also the skill level of the hypnotist.

So, you know, an easy answer to this is that I find that people generally ask this question, “How many sessions do I need?” more out of fear of being in therapy forever or the fear of it not actually working. And so, I would say to you to definitely checkout hypnotherapy in this regard because in this regard, at least how I practice it and everyone I know practices it, is a really brief solution-oriented therapy that focuses on tangible, measurable results.

You should know within the first few visits whether or not you’re getting results from a hypnotherapist. Honestly, if you’ve seen a hypnotherapist more than three and you’re noticing drastic, noticeable changes, then, you’re not probably not really going to get much out of hypnosis with them and you should probably stop seeing them to be really honest with you.

Three sessions is kind of about the limit where I start to look at clients and really start to evaluate what’s going on. Certain clients have issues with trust with deepening and getting into the right place and so sometimes it takes two or three sessions for us to really get them to a place where they can purposely go into trance for the level of therapy.

And so, situations like that are kind of different cases, but for the most part, if we’re getting into hypnotherapy and you know the hypnosis is working right and we’re getting down there, after about two or three sessions if you’re really not seeing noticeable results and drastic changes in what’s going on, usually I would question whether or not we should continue.

I would say to you that if your worry is that you might be stuck in therapy forever or it might take take a really long time before you see if hypnotherapy would really work for you, I would say just go ahead and give it a try because after about three, you’re probably going to notice a lot of results that you’ve been looking for.

And if not, you’re definitely open to try something else. But I think three session is a good place to go.

Just go ahead and think about this: if you’re really worried about how many sessions you need and whether or not you can change quickly, just ease up on yourself. This attitude that you have towards yourself that you need to do things right now, getting things done right this moment, making sure everything is done perfectly might be part of the issue that you have.

So, the first thing I would say to you is ease up on yourself. And lax your self judgment, this process is going to take as long as it takes and that’s just how it is.

Also keep in mind that self-change really is an investment in the life that you want to have. And so, spending money towards self-development is really money well spent because it’s helping you to develop yourself into being the kind of person that you want to be. And working your life toward being more happy, more satisfied, and more fulfilled and ultimately that really is priceless.

So, in answer to this question, “How many sessions do I need?”, really, unfortunately I can’t give you a better answer than, that depends because it really does depend on what you need and how much effort it’s really going to take for you to take on these news skills, learning, and experiences in your life.
